The much awaited premium bike based on the Bajaj CS400 concept is finally going to be introduced officially in India in its production spec model this month. Named as the Bajaj Dominar 400, this brand new premium cruiser motorcycle is going to be the most powerful bike from the Bajaj stable. The new soon to launch Bajaj Dominar 400 is going to be the company’s new flagship model and also naturally the most expensive product in its entire lineup till date. This powerful premium bike from the homegrown two-wheeler major, upon its domestic market launch will be locking its horns with many rivals, among which is another Indian power packed bike - the Mahindra Mojo

The new upcoming Bajaj Dominar 400 gets its powerful engine straight from the powerful KTM 390 Duke. However, this engine will be coming in a tweaked form probably to offer less power and better fuel efficiency. The engine will also be endowed with Bajaj’s Triple Spark technology. The engine is also expected to be suitably tuned to cater to the cruiser category of the Dominar 400. The expected max power output of the Dominar is around 35 PS along with an expected peak torque of around 35 Nm.

On the other hand, the Mahindra Mojo comes packed with a potent 295 cc mill that offers lower power as well as torque figures. However, the power and torque are delivered at lower rpm range in this bike. Mojo comes with high quality Pirelli Diablo Rosso tyres that offer high gripping power for safe rides on any road surfaces. The Mojo’s touring capabilities are further complemented by its liberal 21-liter fuel tank capacity.

Fuel Efficiency

The Bajaj Dominar 400 is expected to offer a good fuel economy of around 30 km per liter. The Mahindra Mojo on the other hand, with its lower power and engine displacement offers a higher fuel efficiency of 36 km per liter.

Top Speed

The upcoming Dominar 400 with its larger and more powerful motor is likely to offer a better top speed of around 155 km per hour, while the Mojo comes with a top speed of just under 150 km per jour. 


As the dimensions of the Bajaj Dominar 400 are not officially revealed till now, we are comparing the two bikes based on estimates.

The Bajaj Dominar 400 is likely to be 2100 mm in length and the Mahindra Mojo is also 2100 mm long. The Dominar is expected to have a width of around 800 mm, while the Mojo is 830 mm wide. The Dominar’s seat height is likely to be set at 780 mm, while the Mojo’s seat is set higher at 820 mm. 

Design & Features

When it comes to powerful premium bikes, the most important thing after the engine specifications is styling. Both of these hunks of motorcycles are designed to look beefy and exude power through their styling. The Dominar 400 looks like getting design inspirations from the Ducati Diavel. Being an affordably priced Indian motorcycle, the Dominar’s looks are subtle yet bold and not as intimidating as the Ducati, but it is impressive for sure. The Dominar flaunts clean surfaces with neatly creases and cuts and gives a miss to flamboyant body graphics. The most remarkable design features of the Dominar 400 is bright stylized full LED headlamp and stylish LED tail light. 

On the other hand, the Mojo comes with an individualistic design language. It flaunts a unique a twin pod headlamp design along with LED pilot lights. The premium visual appeal of the motorcycle is enhanced by its golden colored parts such as on the front forks and twin exhaust pipes.

The Dominar 400 and the Mojo 300 both boast of offering LED pilot lamps, LED taillights, digital speedometer, sporty black alloy wheels, and many more attractive premium features. 

The Mahindra Mojo comes in three body color options of Charcoal Black, Glacier White and Volcano Red. The Bajaj Dominar 400 is also expected to come in 3 - 4 color choices. 


The Dominar 400 is expected to go on sale in January 2017 with a price tag of around Rs. 1.68 lakhs. This means that the Dominar 400 is going to be an affordable 400 cc motorcycle model which will be just slightly more expensive than the less powerful Mahindra Mojo 300. The Mojo comes is priced at Rs. 1.63 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Thus, the more powerful Dominar is certainly expected to offer the price benefit in its own class of 400 cc segment.

Final Words

The much anticipated Bajaj Dominar 400 is a premium cruiser-sports bike. While it is going to be powerful and fast, it is expected to cater to the touring loving bikers more than the speed loving lot. Thus, this Bajaj flagship model is likely to be offering a good balance of performance, cruising capability and fuel economy.
The Mahindra Mojo is also aimed at pleasing the cruising aficionados. It looks and feels premium and is marked by its distinctive styling and good mileage.

When design is concerned, although looks are subjective and depends on various preferences, we think both these Indian motorcycles look very impressive and sporty. When engine specifications are concerned, the Bajaj Dominar 400 certainly has the upper hand with its larger displacement and more powerful motor, although the Mahindra Mojo offers the advantage of offering max power and peak torque at lower RPM. And lastly, when it comes to pricing, the Bajaj Dominar 400 is going to be highly competitively priced at around Rs. 1.68 lakhs for the single channel ABS variant and around at Rs. 1.8 lakhs for the Dual Channel ABS version. This means, while the Dominar will be a more expensive model than the Mahindra Mojo 300, the former’s more power and faster cruising capabilities are going to put it ahead than the latter.
